Mary Z. Cox

Award-winning old time banjo player and self-described "banjoholic" Mary Z. Cox has over a dozen banjos, with a philosophy that it's "your right and your destiny to have more than one banjo."

She's added a new one to her family, Recording King's Ne Plus Ultra open back banjo, which has become the new love of her life.

"With the blonde maple and white laydie tone ring it reminds me very much of a Wildwood Troubadour that I owned years ago—except this new one actually sounds and plays better and, of course, the inlay is most awesome!" says Mary.

"I just love the way it kind of swirls around making your mind think of tree of life and vintage flowerpot all at the same time without actually settling into an exact replica. It's like [Recording King product designer] Greg has caught the energy and movement of both patterns. I love it!"

Mary has recorded five albums of old time music, including her recent Banjo Dreamin' Suwannee Nights, and is a champion of clawhammer playing and the 1st place winner of many banjo contests.

Playing music since the age of twelve, Mary is also a respected author of four banjo tab books, and regularly teaches workshops for both banjo and mountain dulcimer.

Mary Z. Cox plays Sally Ann on the Suwannee River on her new Recording King Ne Plus ultra.
